Sometime at the end of last year I decided on making a large list of goals for the upcoming year with the theme of self-improvement and success. Maybe I went overboard, but I needed a whole lot of distraction from a huge loss and felt that working on various goals was the most constructive route. I will try and update the progress of them throughout the year, but feel free to stay on my case whether or not that plan comes to fruition.
Here they are, in random order, and a status report to go with:
- Run a 1/2 marathon
I was doing pretty well with my running and logging over 50 miles/week but started having problems with my knees. I plan on resuming workouts at a slower pace and talking to a podiatrist.
- Display/Sell a piece in a reputable art gallery
There is a post showing a design for an upcoming conference with expectations of more than a thousand attendees. While this is not a gallery, I would be selling my art if my design is chosen by the committee. I interpret my goals literally and would count this as very close but not quite, so maybe 50%.
- Publish my writing in a reputable source
Well, I have JuicyK. Again, not the literal goal. I’ll stick with 50%.
- Purchase a new car
If I can rake in enough during the busiest weekend of the year for the pub, then hopefully I will have a new car within 2 months.
- Live in my own place without needing to find roommates to share the rent
Numerous other factors have to change before this is even remotely feasible. Sad.
- Gain acceptance into graduate school
I take the GMAT on Saturday and should be studying right now. Interpret that however you like.
- Seriously work on my Spanish
Rosetta Stone could be my newest amigo, or I need to demand that la familia speaks to me only in their native tongue.
- Take an exotic vacation, or just an actual vacation
I did that today, even though I was supposed to be studying. Due to my guilt for not being as focused as I should be, I will not count it. However, I have requested off a full week in April, and that will count as long as my MBA applications are finished.
- Others
It feels like a few are missing, but I have plenty to work with from my present list. If there are no snags in development you can expect Jessica 2.0 beta-version sometime in mid-June.
