Number 12 in 12.0

I thought of one more relevant item left off of my Jessica 12.0 upgrade list: Dress well (or at least better). Make an effort. Look great. Feel awesome.

Nine West had a slogan in one of their many promotional emails encouraging me to “resolve to be sexy” and buy one of their newest heels.  I don’t think that’s quite the resolution/upgrade I’m going for.  However, heels that pretty always put a smile on my face falling right in line with looking great and feeling awesome.

On that note, yesterday turned into a two-fer.  Not only did I attend an afternoon networking/information event for graduate school, but I also had to dress in something other than scrubs, soccer shorts, or a t-shirt.  I chose a tailored jacket, sensible heels, and a flowy dress that had me doing Marylin Monroe impressions all. day. long.  Even though there was ample opportunity to change into a more comfortable outfit I opted to stay slightly overdressed for shopping, stopping off at Starbucks, filling up my tank, and meeting a friend for lunch.  It wasn’t the most practical choice of attire but still felt pretty good to dress up…minus the occasional flashing and sore feet.

Jessica 12.0

It’s been almost three years since I composed a list of what I wanted to accomplish in the coming year.  The first and only “Jessica 2.0″ and its beta version followed an upgrade/software approach to my ideas for coping in more productive ways.  I’d like to keep that productive thread running through this post and hopefully in “software” updates for years to come.  Each of the items for this year’s version are condensed into short phrases with the intentions of a more detailed description in a dedicated post to follow later.  Here they are in no particular order:

Music Monday + Two Days and a Bonus

A very long time ago I posted this with the intention of making it a weekly thing. Well…we all know that didn’t happen. However, I am going to share some of my new and old musical faves in honor of The Malaysian’s favorite cliché: “Sharing is caring, my fren.”

My first introduction to the Morning Benders was via Rebecca Woolf’s blogseries “Track Tuesday”, or maybe it was just a random video link she posted. Either way, I liked it, really, really liked it. Enjoy.

Em gets all the credit for sharing “Sail” and even more credit for sharing the phrase “…blame it on my ADD, baby…Saaaiiillll” over and over and over again while I assisted him with some film school homework. The evening went a little something like this:
“J, I’m ready. Can you stand over there?”
“Here? Do I need to do anything?”
“Bllaaammmee iiittt ooonn mmmyyy ADD, baaaabbby…Saaaiiiilll.”
“You’re so weird”
“Bllaaammmee iiittt ooonn mmmyyy ADD, baaaabbby…Saaaiiiilll.”
And our conversations continued like so from about 5pm to 9pm.  That line is now for-ev-er imprinted in my memory thanks to Em.  Actually liking the song after he played the video for me ended up being a total bonus.
One of the Houston pop stations played the next chosen song sporadically but I was always too late to get the artist or title until one morning while commuting to work.  Lucky for me some guy on the Metro was jammin’ out loud enough for the entire train to hear.  I made sure to listen closely.  When I got back to the apartment my YouTube search commenced until I found what I was looking for.  I shared this “jam” of the moment with Em in response to him sharing “Sail” with me.  He approved.

Even though all their songs sound similarexactly the same, I still like to keep this one stashed away as my goto emergency pepper upper. It’s got that little something special that makes you want to jump in the air and smile, so join with me when I say, “Jager Bombs…Lemon Drops…Buttery Nipples…Jeli-O (Jell-O) Shots…Kamikaze…3 Wise Men”.
